Carlsberg Visit

A group of us from Holger went to see the Carlsberg visitor center and museum on February 1st. Click on the pictures for larger and better quality. Sorry that they're scattered about, I'm still trying to figure out how this blog thing works.
Entrance to the Carlsberg complex.
The Carlsberg center was located about 20 minutes by bus away from the residence. The public transportation system here is very easy to navigate and makes getting almost anywhere in the city a breeze. I bought a monthly pass that gives me unlimited use of the metro trains and buses and I've put it to good use.
John was pretty hungover... It's art.
The visitor center and museum is really the original Carlsberg factory which is called Gamle (Old) Carlsberg. We didn't actually get to tour the factory where they make the beer now. You enter the complex which has a wide open courtyard which would be very beautiful during the summertime. You then go into the center and buy a ticket for the self guided tour which includes vouchers for two beers.

A garage with old delivery trucks is one of the first things you see.
Picture of the old factory from the courtyard.

Pano view of the courtyard.
The tour takes you through a start bar, the horse stables, a sculpture garden, and the old brewhouse. The other parts weren't available when we went. Here's a link (click here)

Old beer wagons
Selfy with a horse!

Old bell. You it was really loud when we rang it.
Old beer machinery

Entrance to Old Carlsberg
JC Jacobsen named Carlsberg after his son Carl Jacobsen

Upstairs is the world's largest bottled beer collection.
This board shows the current number in the collection. 21,925 full bottles.
The bottle collection
There were rows upon rows of bottles

Sampling the Jacobsen
Nice bartender told us a lot about the different beers
The Brewer's Star. Thought it was pretty cool.

Here is a writeup explaining the brewer's start.

Old articles regulating beer making (I think).
The first ever Carlsberg beer produced.
Cool old bottle.

Old parts of the museum.
Old brewing tanks.

Overall the tour was really fun. You can learn a lot if you ask questions and are willing to read all the information in the exhibits. I would definitely recommend going to see it if visiting Copenhagen. If anything you get to taste some good beer!

Skol!
